Skyline hosts the tough Elite Opener on December 2nd to open the season and follows it up with a return for the second year to the Andrew Kenney Duals at Sherando High School on December 8th and 9th. December 15th and 16th the Hawks will head down to Stuarts Draft for some Valley competition to include some 3A West competition like Lord Botetourt and Waynesboro. Heading into Christmas break, Skyline will compete in their next home event with the Appalachian Duals and the Battle at the Bridge for the third time during the holiday break.
In January, the Hawks open the new year with an individual round robin format in the Mayhem at Millbrook. Following that the competition will be dual heavy with around 17 dual meets in late January heading into the post season starting with a district quad at Brentsville, the 39th running of the Virginia Duals, district competition at a quad in William Monroe, a dual round-robin in Strasburg that will feature teams from PA, MD, WV, and VA, and finally Senior Night against Warren County and Youth Night against Handley.
The post-season begins with a remaking of the Northwest District Tournament. The district tournament will be a unique individual bracketed format setup with 3A competitors in one side of the bracket and 4A in the other with a final match between the two champs. Although the tournament will not a be a qualifier for regionals it will have heavy seeding implications heading into the 3A Region B tournament the following week. There is no longer a conference tournament so everyone will compete in the region tournament. The top four in the region will move on to compete in a 16-person bracket at the 3A State Tournament. The 2017-2018 season is sure to be an exciting adventure for the young Hawks looking to fill in the spots vacated by some tough senior leadership including state place winners Boswell, Doffermire, and T Robinson. The dual heavy season will be a challenge welcomed by two returning state place winners (Ahlemann and M Robinson) as well as a host of wrestlers with varsity experience (Domino, Keel, Brown, Coleman, Grady, Gue, and Showers) and some freshman looking to make a name for themselves after years of success with the Front Royal Raptors. Make time in your schedule to watch the Hawks compete at one of the 35+ dual meets next season!
